Adderbite:
Adderbite beamed with pride. The air was warm and thick, and bodies brushed against the thickly muscled, sturdy tom as he pressed forward through the crowd. Coalstar truly trusted him - with one of his own kits. Adderbite's eyes flitted about and surveyed the area. How strange that he didn't associate with his family - really, he only ever talked to Earthfang every once in a while. He had never met the newly named Inkpaw, and he bit the inside of his cheek nervously. He spotted the small black tom from across the way, and the much larger male made his way over to his first actual apprentice. "Uhh," his deep tones rumbled like thunder over mountains, and his long tail swept over the ground awkwardly. "Hey. I'm Adderbite, your mentor."

Inkpaw:
Inkpaw stared up at his father curiously. Adderbite? He had only heard the name once or twice.. Why hadn't his father given him a cat he actually knew like Iceshadow or Hawk-whatever. Adderbite was the deputy at least, so had had a better mentor then Petalpet or Berrybutt. What? he couldn't think of any other offensive names. Grumbling, he looked down at his dead tail and expect Syl'vi to offer some advice -- Nada. Then he heard a voice that almost sounded like a deep purr. Jumping to his paws, he looked up only to spot a gigantic tom, in which he had to back up to get the full view. Wow! He was so big! Shuffling his tiny grey paws, he puffed up his chest. "Inkpaw! Uh..Nice to meet you? Deputy, right? Impressive I guess? Of course, Ill be deputy one day too." The tom squeaked, already proudly standing up as he went on and on about how he was going to be deputy too some day.

Adderbite:
Adderbite's eyes shined with amusement and he smiled warmly down at the much smaller tom. "It's nice to meet you, Inkpaw. Did you know that you father is my cousin?" He plopped down next to the tom and his mouth gaped open in a wide yawn; he was tired, usually the first to wake and the last to sleep. Images of Firefeather danced around behind his eyes and he scanned the camp for her fiery pelt, but she was no where to be seen, most likely talking to some of her friends. "That means we're family .. Funny, huh?" He smiled again, watching as the little tom bounced and wriggled with excitement. How Adderbite had wished he could have had a life like that. Instead, when Adderbite was apprenticed, he was like a solemn stone, and the only emotion he showed was his never-ending desire to be loyal. He was a soldier from the start. Not very swell at socializing, Adderbite looked around one last time for his mate, but she was no where to be seen. His gaze returned to the innocent tom that he could call both his family and his apprentice. His eyes shone down like stars, and he knew he would watch over the young male until Inkpaw grew to be a fully-fledged warrior, or maybe even longer after that. Adderbite's chest swelled with pride and excitement as he realized he would help this tom grow into the hopefully respected, hard-working warrior that Adderbite saw in him already. "Would you like to go outside of camp and explore for a bit? I know it's dark, but .. " Adderbite flicked his tail curiously. "I like the night. You probably will too - you're dark, like me, and hunting comes easy for us in the night."

Inkpaw:
Cousin? Why didn't he know that! Then again, he and his father never really were close. But wouldn't Earthfang or Berrypaw. Then again, all his immediate family hated him so it wasn't really that much of a surprise. Was Adder here going to hate on him too? The small tom was so deep in thought that he barely noticed the larger tom settle down next to him. Inkpaw jumped in surprise, wide eyes flicking all over Adderbites body as if confused or offended that he would have the indecency to do such a thing, before he could even say any protest the deputy began talking again. "I know its very exciting to have me as an apprentice, and I assure you I feel the same way -- I am excited to be an apprentice too.." He trailed off, looking at Adder in some sort of dread. Oh, how little Inkpaw was so nervous. He wanted to become good really fast to show that he was no worse if not better then his siblings, despite being delayed for a moon. With Adderbites help, he would be the best apprentice the clan has ever seen. Hah! Perhaps even the best apprentice in all the clans! This thought amused him, and even though he was going over it in his head, he still put a paw around Adder as if actually sharing thoughts with him but quickly took his paw off and licked it gingerly, almost as if not wanting to get any fleas. Outside? COOL! He bounced lightly before regaining his cool composure. "Uh. Sure id be up for it" He said, eyes twinkling.

Adderbite:
Adderbite winked at the small tom, and with the flick of his tail, he motioned his his  large, fluffy head to the entrance of the camp. The large tom remember the first time he ventured out .. He had wished it was his last. A sad expression of mourning and grief took over his face, and he stopped for just a quick second to let his water-y blue eyes glance up at the stars. I'm sorry, Honeycoud. His mouth formed the silent words. Then, as if it never happened, Adderbite took a few steps forward, his large body propelled by thickly muscled legs. "You ready, lil guy?" He looked back to see if Inkpaw was following, and with a wide grin, he bounced forward through the entrance of the camp to the world beyond.

Inkpaw:
Inkpaw bolted past Adderbite, excitedly looking around the moor and jumping into tall grass. His tail waving around high and mighty as he ran around exploring everything. The black tom didn't bother to even look behind and check to see if Adder was following, frankly, he could train himself, but whatever helped the leader sleep at nice. Rolling his eyes, he spotted a rabbit to his side. Crouching down low, he sprung /way/ too early and missed! Hissing in frustration, he chased the rabbit all over the moor until he was too exhausted to run any longer. Groaning, he rolled onto his back.

Adderbite:
Adderbite padded calmly after the tom, trailing him and watching him from a distance with intent eyes. He scanned the moor, everywhere about him, When the young tom tried for a rabbit, Adderbite saw many areas where Inkpaw could have used to his advantage and cornered the rabbit. While Adderbite was thickly muscled and of a decent pace, he was better with stamina. He followed Inkpaw from a distance and sighed when the young tom lost the prey. "Inkpaw," he mumbled, hardly out of breath when he reached the tom due to his stamina and slower pace, "You have to be patient, and listen to me, please. It's dangerous when you run off without having surveyed the area or checked the wind to make sure you're - " Addderbite realized nothing he was saying would make sense to the young tom and he sat, positioning himself in front of Inkpaw with his tail curled neatly around his paws. Adderbite's deep, thrumming tones grew serious. "The first thing you want to do is get a good idea of the area you're in. You want to find a high point where you can see everything around you. It's a little tricky, because it's dark, but it's also trickier for the rabbit to see us." The wind rushed through Adderbite's fur and tossed it wildly around, and he sighed. "You can also find a way to trick your prey into a tight spot and corner it that way. The next thing you want to do is make sure the wind is blowing the prey's scent to you, and not your scent to it. That's called being downwind, if you didn't already know."

Inkpaw:
Inkpaw heaved, his breath slowing as he layer down in the tall grass. Stupid rabbit! Why couldn't he catch it? How could he be destined for greatness if he could be outran by a simple rabbit. Putting his paws over his muzzle, he curled up for a second. Ears perking at the sound of his mentors voice, he sighed through his nose and got to his paws. It was obvious he was upset about not catching it on his first try. Berrypaw might have caught it on her first try, the thought made him grit his teeth. Looking at his mentor as the older tom blabbered along about something he couldn't understand, he opening his maw to voice his confusion only to find that Adderbite had already paused. eyeing down his mentor as he listening, he sighed. "Riiiight." He said, unamused.

Adderbite:
Adderbite flicked an ear in annoyance. After he had finished his first lesson, he realized that Inkpaw hadn't been listening the entire time. Adderbite's maw opened and his voice was like a heavy stone. "Inkpaw, I realize things might have been rather difficult for you with your family - but I'm not like them. I will be your friend, but you must also listen to me if you want to become a strong, loyal warrior and make WindClan proud." Adderbite sat tall and proud, muscles rippling under the moonlight. It takes a effort, time, listening, and hard work to become a warrior, and even more to become a Deputy. I will not tolerate your poor attitude, and neither would a Leader looking for a Deputy."

Inkpaw:
Inkpaw hissed at his mentor. "Poor attitude? Ill be the best apprentice YOU have ever seen!" The tom hissed, lashing his tail and running off. Tears glistening in his eyes as he ran. He was just like all of them, Coalstar set him up! He was just trying to change him like everyone else. He ran until he couldn't run anymore, hiding in tall grass as he huddled close for warmth. Stupid tom! Syl'vi would have made him happy if he was still around. Everyone hated him. His poor attitude...Everyone knew it. Covering his muzzle with his paws, he wished to start over.

Adderbite:
Adderbite watched Inkpaw leave with anger and sadness in his eyes. His tail lashed and he paced in place for a while, waiting for his fuming frustration to ease itself. His claws dug deeply into the cool, soft earth. Why wouldn't Inkpaw just listen? That's all Adderbite wanted. After a while, worry replaced Adderbite's anger, and with concern on his face and the whooooing of the wind telling him to find his apprentice before he became another Honeycloud - Honeycloud .. Adderbite frowned. He followed the scent of his apprentice and found the small tom huddled amongst the grass. Thank StarClan for keeping him safe. Adderbite's eyes raised to the stars in a plea to help him. "Inkpaw," He spoke, the wind tangling itself in his fur. "I'm only trying to help you. That's my job."

Inkpaw:
Inkpaw curled up and even dozed off before hearing Adderbites low voice. His eyes hardened as he got to his paws, his tail switching from one side of his hind paws to the other. His eyes were still red from his watering eyes, his mouth trembling. Biting his tongue, he looked away from his mentor. "You said I had a bad attitude" Inkpaw grumbled, turning around to lay down in the grass which was now patted down. "You say I have a bad attitude, so does everyone else in my family. They all hate me, they all dislike me because of my attitude" The tom mumbled.

Adderbite:
Adderbite settled himself down beside the small tom, but gave him enough space to make sure he was comfortable. He listened to Inkpaw's protesting, and sighed. When Adderbite shook his head, the thick fur on his neck trembled and rippled like water's surface when hit by rain. "For the record, I'm your family, and I don't hate you." His tail flicked and Adderbite's head craned up to look at the stars. "You just need to learn to be respectful and listen. You can't learn anything if you're constantly pushing those away who are tying to help you."

Inkpaw:
Inkpaw glanced at Adderbite solemnly. His fluffy tail twitching, getting up, he discarded what his mentor said to look down at the black snake. "What is it Syl'vi?" The tom said, eyes twinkling. The tail twitched and hit Adder on the shoulder and Ink frowned. "But --" The tail moved again, and Ink sighed. Glaring at Adder then at his tail, patting down Syl'vi with a grey paw, smoothing out his fur. "Syl'vi says I should listen...Something about being downwind, right? Its just..Listening is so boring. I listened for 7 moons, I want to do something now." The tom protested.

Adderbite:
Adderbite's eyes shown down at Inkpaw with interest and curiosity. An idea struck Adderbite and he gently nudged his apprentice and raised himself to his paws. "Well, if you can at least try, for me, we'll get along. And I can listen to you to, you know. It doesn't have to be one-sided. I believe things such as respect are earned, and your effort will not go unnoticed by me." Adderbite's eyes gleamed bright blue in the moonlight. His tail flicked and he smiled at Inkpaw. "Now, I think a rabbit would be easier to try for tommorow, but for now .. Would you like me to show you around?"

Inkpaw:
Inkpaw blinked at his mentor, almost being pushed over by the toms giant paw. Shaking his pelt, he glared at his mentor, the older tom should know that his gigantic paw would be enough to push him over in one swipe. Get along? Was the possible? Biting his tongue, he looked over his shoulder and sighed.  "Unnoticed? So what about me chasing the rabbit, then?" He said, flicking his tail, looking at his mentor with wide eyes. "And yes! Can we please look around?"

Adderbite:
Adderbite watched as the smaller tom fell over. "Oh my gosh, my appoligies! Are you alright? I .. I thought I just gently nudged you - " Adderbite sighed. "It was a good first try, but you would have done better if you had listened to me first. I could have helped you catch it easily, but you will learn with time. Hunting is a practiced skill .. It actually took me more than one try to catch my first rabbit." Adderbite smiled and blinked, turning ahead to lead the young tom to the Silo, to the far south of their camp. "See that dark shape ahead?" He turned back to look at Inkpaw, and winked. "It's not a tree."

Inkpaw:
The apprentice's pupils widened at the sight of such a silhouette. His mouth gapping open as he padded a bit closer to the figure, then glancing back to his mentor with a small smile. "What is it?" He asked in awe, padding a bit closer to it, as if being drawn to it like a magnet. "Can we go there? Please? I want to see it!" He said, his paws itching at the thought. Oh, what could it be? A two leg home? Interesting. Tail rising, he bounced to his toes and onto his hind paws, righting to rise up to get a better look.

Adderbite:
Adderbite nodded and grinned. "Now why would I tease you with a sight like that and not let you go to it?" He chuckled, blue eyes twinkling with amusement like stars in the sky. He took a bounding step forward and turned around just to make sure Inkpaw was going to be able to keep up - even if he was, Adderbite slowed his pace a bit. They were both bound to get tired if they traveled too quickly, and it was already almost moon-high.

Inkpaw:
Inkpaw followed his mentor on tiny legs. Running forward as he bit onto his mentors tail. He could keep up, but it was more fun to bite his tail. He made sure to do it lightly so his mentor would get mad. Gleefully, he trotted along behind him.

Adderbite:
Something latched onto Adderbite's thick, fluffy tail, and the tom looked back to see Inkpaw getting himself a mouthful of it. Adderbite's eyes were wide with surprise, but it didn't hurt - it actually kind of tickled. Adderbite let out a deep laugh, warm and welcoming, and padded onward. As the Silo grew closer and closer, the ruins looked more and more ancient and tempting to the curious soul. Adderbite turned around and came to a halt as they stood at the base of the crumbling, tower-like figure. "You have to be careful," he called over the sound of wind rushing through and around the crumbling silo. "It's very old, and unlike trees .. It doesn't fall down all at once. So watch out for where you step because you may fall or something might fall on you, alright?"

Inkpaw:
Trotting along behind his mentor, Inkpaw finally felt like an apprentice. Still, the tiny tom had the urge to run around and roll into tall grass. Tugging ever so lightly on Adderbites tail, his eyes began to droop tiredly. Yawning, he let go of the tail for a split second, only to find it had gone off without him. Crouching down low with his butt to the sky, he waved his tail and jumped onto Adderbite's butt. Taking out his tiny but thorn sharp claws, he scrambled onto the gigantic toms back and laid down so he wouldn't have to walk. he was the leaders son, this should be a honour. When the silo began to be in sight, the apprentice scrambled to his mentors head and jumped off, huffing as if he had just walked a mile. Curiously, the tom glanced at the bottom of the two-leg made figure, his interest growing with the angle of his head as he looked up. "...Wow." He said, eyes wide. "What does it do?"

Adderbite:
Adderbite craned his head upwards to look at it, the wind eerily howling through it's holes and crevices - the place really was falling apart. At the sound of Inkpaw's voice, Adderbite turned his head to look at the smaller tom. "I think, - now, I'm not too sure about this - but, I /think/ two-legs used it to store food 'n stuff for their slave-pets and other animals." Adderbite's nose twitched at the thought of being a slave or a kittypet to a two-leg. His lip actually curled at the appalling thought. "I really dislike two-legs. They're very .. Hm." He couldn't put words the the strange, fur-less creatures.

Inkpaw:
Ink walked up to it and attempted to sink his claws into the decaying metal, it didn't work of course. "Slave..pets? I thought that was all just a myth!" The apprentice gasped, eyes wide as he stared at his mentor. He had heard about kitty pets once or twice, but never considered them to be..existing. Walking back to Adderbite, he sat down and curled his tail around his paws. "What should we learn for tonight, then?" He asked, every once and a while he would glance at the silo in awe but he made sure to keep his full attention to his mentor.

Adderbite:
Adderbite blinked and yawned - when he looked down at Inkpaw, whom was bathed in dark starlight, he thought the young tom had to have been as tired as he were, if not even more. "Well, I thought it might be nice to just .. Break the ice, maybe. You learned quite a bit about hunting today - of course, I'll go deeper into teaching you later on." Adderbite realized he was rambling and closed his maw, waiting for the younger, much smaller tom to reply. "Is there anything in specific you want to learn or talk about?"

Inkpaw:
Ink eyes widened as his mentor yawned. Was the tom tired? He hadn't even realized his own drowsiness until being reminded by Adderbite's large yawn. Yawning himself, he rubbed his eyes with a paw. "Sleep!" He exclaimed, eyes wide as he stared at his mentor and rolled into the grass. "I forgot how tired I was! And I'm sooo tried! Sleep! I want to practice the art of sleeeeeeee-" He yawned, "-eeep!" Curling up into a ball, he closed his eyes and attempted to sleep right at the silo instead of in his own nest..He didn't even notice how tired he was! How oblivious of him.

Adderbite:
Adderbite paused for a moment, and looked down at the tom with a warm smile on his face. He then took it upon himself to scoop the small tom up and grab his scuff in his mouth - even as big as Adderbite was, the smaller tom was slightly heavy, for he wasn't exactly a kit. In a few moons, Adderbite wouldn't be able to do this anymore. His grip was firm but gentle, and he padded in the direction of camp with the small tom in his safe grip. The ground moved slowly under Adderbite's steady paws, at a steady pace, and the large deputy listened to the chirping of crickets as he moved through the night with his new apprentice under his safe watch.
